1) Where and how files are stored

5) Manage storage

Basically, Google Drive gives you 15GB of free storage per account, and you will be charged for increasing capacity. But if you feel that your free space is draining unusually fast, you can easily check what’s occupying a lot of space.

Check the files displayed in descending order of size from the “Storage capacity” tab on the left side of the top page of Google Drive, and delete unnecessary ones. Keep in mind that none of the so-called “native files” created on Google Drive take up space as they would when imported from a device. This means that spreadsheets should be created directly from Google Drive.

Lesser known is Google Drive’s “Trash” folder. It is also possible to empty this to secure capacity. Knowing the existence of this folder is also useful when you want to restore deleted files.
